Stepping off your ship at the Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock in Haines, Alaska feels like a peaceful escape from the crowded, jewelry-shop-lined mega-ports elsewhere. Surrounded by glacier-draped mountains rising straight from the fjord, this unpretentious town of 2,600 residents offers a genuine, slow-paced slice of rugged Alaskan life.

Hoonah & Icy Strait Point, Alaska

.Hoonah is Alaska's largest Tlingit village, offering a quiet, unpolished contrast to the commercial port.
